Working with stretch fabrics, often seen of the bane of many a seamstresses life, is something that comes very naturally to Tilly, having been introduced to mass producing dance-wear at age 16. Once old enough, she was also introduced to drinking rum on a Friday afternoon and making super hero outfits to frolic in, but that happens in every office, right?
Tilly developed a natural skill for manipulating synthetic 2 way and 4 way stretch fabrics, whilst mastering the different types of industrial machinery used within the production business. Having learnt to pattern grade using the rules of stretch fabrics, which, whilst tricky enough to begin with, requires an extra level of care when using spandex/lycra content fabrics, Tilly has gone on to teach others to work with stretch fabrics at southend university and to tutor specialist sewing lessons.
This experience (not the rum bit) is what has made Tilly Von Tiki a stretch-fabric specialist, and is why they often collaborate with designers on swimwear ranges and shine in the Dance-wear industry
